U-Lingua Autumn 2022, Issue 10
Our first Issue on Substack! In this issue, we look at some linguistics in recent affairs – the Euros and legislation on British Sign Language – and recent research – childhood pragmatic acquisition and the omni-linguistics research programme. The Voices section deals with the theme of language and identity. There are also two puzzles in this issue, one of which written at the ULAB Puzzles Workshop this August. -
U-Lingua Summer 2022, Issue 9
In Issue 9 of U-Lingua, we look at a range of linguistic topics. Two articles discuss the linguistic diversity of Eurovision, and another the therapeutic benefits of singing. Other articles deal with the theme of language and conflict, from the semiotic symbols in the Russian invasion of Ukraine to power dynamics in the workplace, as well as the use of language in ‘1984’ by George Orwell and ‘Deaf Republic’ by Ilya Kaminsky. Two more articles deal with machine translation and natural language processing in medicine. Also featuring two student-written puzzles and linguistical memes! -
U-Lingua Spring 2022, Issue 8
In The Digital Issue, we look at how technology has changed the face of linguistics, from the rise of the internet as a linguistic space, and the increased accessibility to resources and corpora, multi-media communication, and the possibility of discussing formal linguistics in the context of memes and emojis. Four columnists share their thoughts on language documentation, online exams, the parallels between linguistics and maths, and the linguistic theory behind the video game 'Pathologic 2'. -
U-Lingua Winter 2022, Issue 7
In The Change Issue, we look at how language has changed, and can change, and what changes we can make the most of to make our language more accessible and inclusive to its speakers. Four columnists share their thoughts on postgraduate applications, reinventing a language, contemporary and corpus linguistics. -

U-Lingua Winter 2021, Issue 3
Although Christmas is now behind us, there is still plenty to look forward to in the new issue of U-Lingua! This time, we have an exciting interview with Dr Claire Hardaker, host of the forensic linguistics podcast 'en clair', a series of articles and abstracts written by current PhD students in linguistics for "Behind The Bookshelves" on a special theme ('The Mind'), and a linguistic analysis of the recent political strife in Poland surrounding the abortion ban. The Undergraduate Linguistics Association of Britain is excited to release the first issue of its new magazine, U-Lingua! The magazine aims to provide entertaining and informative content to undergraduate students of linguistics in the U.K. and abroad.
