University of Aberdeen 2016

ULAB2016 took place on April 8-10, 2016 at the University of Aberdeen.

In addition to student talks and a poster session, the conference also featured a Postgraduate Q&A Panel and three renowned plenary speakers. All participants received a free conference bag. The Local Committee organised a raffle for 20 linguistics books, donated by Cambidge University Press, Bloomsbury’s and Wiley.

Compared to previous years, ULAB2016  saw the largest amount of speakers having come to ULAB from outside UK. In addition, for the first time ever ULAB offered travel bursaries to delegates. The Conference dinner took place at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Plenary speakers:
  • Prof. Robert McColl Millar, University of Aberdeen – "Close and Distant Language Contact"
  • Prof. April McMahon (Aberystwyth University) – "Historical Linguistics – A Cinderella Story?"
  • Prof. Anders Holmberg, Newcastle University – "The Syntax of Yes and No"
